Content Media Corporation (Content) has signed a major distribution partnership with Cardinal Releasing, it announced today. The company has added a raft of Cardinal’s new Emperor Media titles produced and directed by music and media industry veteran Jon Brewer, whose career in music, film and television has spanned four decades beginning with artist management looking after names such as David Bowie, Gerry Rafferty and Yes among other.

New productions making their international debut include 90’ special Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story, an unprecedented celebration, with exclusive voice-over contributions from David Bowie, of the life and works of guitar virtuoso Mick Ronson, a rock hero virtually unknown despite his direct contribution and involvement in countless compositions, lyrics and recordings that changed the face of music forever. In the landmark new three-part mini-series Monochrome: Black, White & Blue, Jon Brewer shines a light on America’s boiling kettle of racial unrest for the past 300 years to the present day, and the musical by-product that resulted: blues, rock and roll, and rap. Also launching is feature documentary B.B. King: On The Road, the highly-anticipated sequel to B.B. King: The Life of Riley.

Further specials available include Steve McQueen: Desert Racer, unearthing the fascinating story behind film icon McQueen’s favourite pastime and hidden talent, dirt-bike racing, and Bad Company, capturing the incredible story of one of rock’s original super groups. The new deal also sees Content Media distributing a host of further titles from the Cardinal Releasing catalogue in available territories such as Nat King Cole: Afraid of the Dark, The Classic Artists Series and B.B. King: The Life of Riley.

Jonathan Ford, Executive Vice President Sales and Distribution at Content Media, commented, “For more than 40 years, Jon Brewer has played a pivotal role in the careers of some of the world’s greatest icons, bringing their stories vividly to life as an acclaimed producer/director. As a result of this, Cardinal Releasing represents some of the very best music and entertainment biopics and documentaries in the world and we’re pleased to ink this significant agreement as we head to MIPCOM.”

Jon Brewer added, "In this ever-expanding arena of increasingly complex platforms and windows for digital, television and theatrical exploitation, we are thrilled to have aligned ourselves with Content Media to represent our product, as this guarantees our programming will reach its maximum potential in the world marketplace."

From Emperor Media Ltd. and producer/ director Jon Brewer, Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story (90’) features exclusive voice-over contributions from David Bowie. His humble beginnings in Hull, England underpinned the values and modest, unpretentious personality of Mick Ronson, who worked with the city’s council while he pursued his craft with consummate dedication. Soon word of his talent reached David Bowie, who grabbed at the chance to work with Ronson, in what would become a career-long association, alongside collaborations with other greats such as Bob Dylan, Ian Hunter, Lulu and Lou Reed. The Man Who Sold the World, Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory, The Jean Genie – all were constructed with Ronson on guitar. Sadly in 1993, while working on a solo album, Ronson passed away before receiving the recognition he so richly deserved or before taking that final bow. Now, with unprecedented access to archival backstage footage - never before released - and iconic imagery from superstar photographer Mick Rock, this fascinating and at times controversial special reveals the ultimate authentic chronicle of the career of a cornerstone of rock.

Jon Brewer lovingly defragments the history of not only blues music but also the plight of America’s people of colour in Monochrome: Black, White & Blue, bringing the story of blues to life through powerful interviews, live musical references and sweeping landscapes. From America’s Deep South to Chicago, Detroit and New York, this three-part series traces the evolution of blues through pivotal moments in black history – from slavery to the Civil Rights Movement. Brewer discovers that there was no music called ‘blues’ when its creators stepped into a new feel of musical expressionism… just pain and oppression, from which music, momentarily, set them free. Featuring artists such as Dr. John, Aaron Neville, Buddy Guy, Allen Toussaint, Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman, Jake Bugg and B.B. King, alongside historical experts, this captivating series unveils the passion of a people that endured through means organic and spiritual, and the songs that carved a place in history, inspiring musicians to this day. An Emperor Media Ltd. Production.

Narrated by Charley Boorman, fast-paced biographical documentary Steve McQueen: Desert Racer unearths the fascinating story that was the undercurrent of film icon Steve McQueen’s favourite pastime and hidden talent, dirt-bike racing. The film explores McQueen’s obsession with speed and the invention of a racing bike, the Desert Racer, a by-product of his relationship with Bud Ekins, his stunt double on The Great Escape. Steve McQueen: Desert Racer boasts new and candid interviews with Chad McQueen from his Malibu home. McQueen’s racing contemporaries John Cooper and Dave Ekins also contribute, with first hand stories featuring Steve McQueen in his happiest times. Now the Metisse motorbike designed by Steve and Bud Ekins is being re-created in Limited Edition, handcrafted in the UK. An Emperor Media Ltd. Production.

90’ special Bad Company captures, for the first time, the incredible story of one of rock’s original super-groups, creators of a powerful true rock sound and spirit that imprinted upon the 1970s and continues to sell out stadium tours worldwide. Through previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive interviews, the film uncovers the truth behind their early management, the relentless tours, the rise and fall of super manager Peter Grant, and the death of drummer John ‘Bonzo’ Bonham. Supported by Bad Company’s major hit tracks, this candid film celebrates rock’s hottest anthems in the company of the group’s remaining three members, Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirke and Mick Ralphs, alongside contemporaries Brian May, Zoot Money, Sam Moore, Joe Elliot, Jason Bonham and many more. An Emperor Media Ltd. Production.
