SCANDINAVIA TAKES MORE THAN 70 HOURS OF KEW MEDIA DISTRIBUTION’S NEW PROGRAMMING

Leading global distributor Kew Media Distribution, part of Kew Media Group, has sold more than 70 hours of new content to the Scandinavian region, concluding a range of deals with key broadcasters, including four acquisitions of biopic The Radical Story of Patty Hearst and three pickups of the new instalment from the acclaimed Bletchley Circle franchise.

New deals see YLE Finland securing The Radical Story of Patty Hearst (6 x one hour) and The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco (8 x one hour), alongside a second female-led drama series, Frankie Drake Mysteries (season two, 10 x one hour). A Bat Bridge Entertainment production for CNN, The Radical Story of Patty Hearst chronicles the transformation of Patty Hearst from heiress to terrorist in a saga of privilege, celebrity, politics, media, revolution and violence. The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, an Omnifilm Entertainment production in association with BritBox LLC and World Productions, follows two of the original series’ lead characters as they travel to America during the thrilling social change of the mid-1950s. A CBC original series developed and produced by Shaftesbury in association with CBC and UKTV, Frankie Drake Mysteries, set in 1920s Toronto, follows the city’s only female private detectives as they take on the cases the police don’t want to touch.

SVT in Sweden and NRK in Norway have also picked up The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco and The Radical Story of Patty Hearst. At the same time, NRK Norway has also secured a package of documentary specials including Dealt (85-minutes, Keep On Running Pictures and Ralph Smyth Entertainment), which tells the inspiring story of sixty-two year-old Richard Turner who is renowned as one of the world’s greatest card magicians. Co-incidentally he is completely blind. Closing Gambit: 1978 Korchnoi Versus Karpov And The Kremlin (85-minutes, Screenbound Pictures Ltd), centres on the political undercurrent that surrounded the dramatic and controversial 1978 World Chess Championship, as two Russian players engaged in a far-reaching bitter rivalry on and off the board.

Denmark’s DR has also secured The Radical Story of Patty Hearst and Dealt alongside the terrifying real-life story of the Golden State Killer, Unmasking A Killer (6 x one hour), from Joke Productions for HLN. Responsible for 51 attacks and 12 murders in California, investigators have searched for the sadistic criminal for forty years and finally arrested a suspect on 25 April, 2018.

Hana Palmer, VP of Sales at Kew Media Distribution, said, “It’s been a delight to deliver these series into the discerning Scandinavian market. We’ve received strong global interest in these brand new titles since their recent launch and expect these acquisitions to be the first of many. Whether fiction or non-fiction, each one is a masterclass in story-telling and I’m confident will prove very successful with a broad cross-section of viewers.”
