Kodi Smit-McPhee (ALPHA, X-MEN APOCALYPSE) and Ryan Kwanten (RED HILL, TRUE BLOOD) have signed on to star in “2067” - an elevated climate fiction movie telling the story of humanity’s last attempt at saving mankind. They join a stellar cast that includes THE SAPPHIRES’ Deborah Mailman, Sundance hit KILLING GROUND’S Aaron Glenane, Damian Walshe-Howling (MYSTERY ROAD, JANET KING), Leeanna Walsman (SAFE HARBOUR, STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES), Finn Little (STORM BOY) and introduces two of Australia’s hottest new talents -  Sana’a Shaik and Matt Testro.

Award-winning filmmaker Seth Larney (TOMBIRUO, HIPSTERS) is directing "2067" from an original screenplay he wrote himself. Larney is well known for his successful career in digital management and effects on Hollywood blockbusters such as THE MATRIX RELOADED, STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH, SUPERMAN RETURNS, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA and X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, to name a few.  Larney was just nominated for an Australian Academy of Cinema Arts and Television Award (AACTA) for TOMBIRUO.

Kew Media Distribution, part of Kew Media Group, is handling international sales (excluding Australia and New Zealand where Umbrella Entertainment has distribution rights) and introduced the newly cast project to distributors at the recent American Film Market (AFM). Shout! Studios has just acquired all North American rights to this movie for all rights distribution in the U.S. and Canada.

2067 is a new elevated sci-fi mystery thriller in the tradition of MOON, ARRIVAL and THE MACHINE. After years of doing too little to reverse climate change, humans are paying a terrible price – forests, plants, and wildlife are gone, and soon humans will be too. With no cure in sight, the only place humanity can look for help is to the future…

Producing the film are Lisa Shaunessy (Sundance Midnight Selection KILLING GROUND) through her Arcadia production banner, and Kate Croser of Kojo Entertainment.

Executive producers are sci-fi guru Michael Rymer (QUEEN OF THE DAMNED, BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA), Alexandra Burke (Arcadia), Craig McMahon (Elevate Production Finance), James Boyce and Claire Evans (Grumpy Originals), Jeff Harrison and Ari Harrison (Umbrella Entertainment), Josh Pomeranz and Adam Scott (Spectrum Films), Will Gammon (Cumulus VFX), Bryce Menzies and Clement Dunn (MDW Law).

Australian Government funding and investment partners on the film include Screen Australia, South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and Create NSW (New South Wales).

The film started principal photography at Adelaide Studios, South Australia on the 3rd November.

Jonathan Ford, EVP of Sales, Distribution at Kew Media said, “The story of ‘2067’ is enough to excite sci-fi fans worldwide but when you add actors like Kodi, Ryan, Deborah, Damian and Leeanna, the meter rises even higher and audiences expect something very special, which is what will be delivered here. This is an elevated sci-fi story that is very much character driven, and this is where having actors of this caliber and gravitas pay great dividends. We’re happy to introduce a film we believe has great breakout potential.”

"The best science fiction is a mirror into which we see reflected back our own potential…for better and for worse. '2067' uses climate change as a jumping off point into a time travel story of elitism, hope, sacrifice and possibility. We’re happy to see Seth Larney and his excellent cast realize this exciting thriller,” said Jordan Fields, Vice President of Acquisitions, Shout! Studios

In addition to 2067, Kew’s impressive international sales slate includes verité drama WHO WE ARE NOW; the coming of age romantic drama THE SONG OF SWAY LAKE; dramatic comedy BERNARD AND HUEY; the supernatural horror THE DEVIL’S DOORWAY; the underdog boxing comedy GLOVES OFF; the horror thriller THE DARK MILE; the documentary NOTHING LIKE A DAME, featuring Dames Eileen Atkins, Judi Dench, Joan Plowright and Maggie Smith; the bio-doc on Blind magician Richard Turner, DEALT; the horror-thriller DEMON HOUSE; BACHMAN – the documentary on Canadian musician Randy Bachman; and the poignant documentary THE LAST ANIMALS.

Kodi Smit-McPhee is represented by ICM Partners. Ryan Kwanten is represented by RGM Artists, WME and Link Entertainment. Deborah Mailman, Damian Walshe-Howling and Leeanna Walsman are represented by Sue Barnett and Associates. Casting by Marianne Jade, Maura Fay Casting and Kelly Valentine Hendry, KVH Casting.

The film is an Arcadia and Kojo Entertainment feature with principal production investment from Screen Australia in association with the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and Create NSW. Developed with the assistance of Screen Australia and Create NSW.
