KEW MEDIA GROUP RELOADS SALES SLATE WITH ADDITION OF THREE NEW FILMS AHEAD OF EFM IN BERLIN

KEW Media Group announced today that it has acquired worldwide sales rights to a trio of films ahead of the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin. Films added to the KEW slate are the dramatic thriller PAINKILLERS - a dark drama about a man’s journey to overcome the guilt of his son’s death; I, DOLOURS – a documentary on female militant IRA activist Dolours Price; and COSPLAY UNIVERSE – a documentary on the global Comic-Con sub-culture and evolution of Cosplay.

Kew Media’s EVP of Sales, Jonathan Ford, will introduce the films to distributors at the EFM in Berlin where all films will be making their market debut.

KEW’s Jonathan Ford said, “All three of these films have strong narratives that will appeal to audiences all over the world. Roxy has created a beautifully tormented masterpiece with PAINKILLERS, Maurice has pulled back the curtain on the mysterious life of one of the world’s most notorious activists with I, DOLOURS, and Jonathan’s COSPLAY UNIVERSE has taken us deep into the world of comics and cosplay through the eyes of its ultimate fans and industry’s legends. We could not be more excited to bring these dynamic projects to our friends and clients in Berlin.”

PAINKILLERS stars Adam Huss (POWER), Madeline Zima (CALIFORNICATION, TWIN PEAKS), Grant Bowler (DEFIANCE, TRUE BLOOD), Debra Wilson (MADTV, BODIED), and Mischa Barton (THE O.C., THE SIXTH SENSE).  Roxy Shih (THE TRIBE, DARK WEB) directed PAINKILLERS from a screenplay written by Giles Doust (STARRY EYES, FEAR INC). Daoust also produced the film with Luke Barnett (FEAR INC) and Vincent Masciale (FEAR INC). Mike Macari (THE RING, THE RING TWO), Catherine Dumonceaux, Alain Berliner, and Vincent Toujas are executive producers. The film is currently in postproduction.

After a terrible car crash in which his son dies, brilliant surgeon John Clarke, tormented by guilt, becomes prey to an unbearable physical pain. While his marriage starts disintegrating, John soon finds out that the only thing that can ease his pain is the taste of human blood. When he encounters Herb Morris, a man who claims he can help him get his life back, John embarks upon a nightmarish journey through which he will have to either come to terms with his pain... or become a monster.

Better understanding the radicalization of female terrorists/freedom fighters has never been more important.  The documentary I, DOLOURS features a glimpse into the secret life of now deceased militant IRA activist Dolours Price through a never before seen interview. The film is directed by Maurice Sweeney (SAVING THE TITANIC, TRIAL OF THE CENTURY, THE DEATH OF OUR ANGELS) and produced by Nuala Cunningham (TRAFFICKED) and Ed Moloney (VOICES FROM THE GRAVE).

A cinematic yet intimate and complex portrait of Dolours Price, militant IRA activist, hunger striker and dissident Republican who two years before she died gave a filmed interview on condition that it would not be broadcast in her lifetime.  Now for the first time her story can be told in full and entirely in her own words. This shocking film brings us deep inside the IRA and charts one woman’s journey from passionate idealist into disillusioned cynic, haunted by the memories of the terrible things she did for a cause she once so strongly believed in, she killed for it but, which she believes was ultimately betrayed. Dolours Price resists easy stereotyping – she was a ruthless revolutionary/terrorist who didn’t shirk any task, however brutal. She demanded her equal place among the male-dominated members of the IRA and was pitiless in her scorn for those who didn’t share her total commitment. She was also a beautiful, charismatic woman, loving mother, devoted sister and friend. She was passionate but fragile, dogmatic, yet tortured. Fascinating, moving and at times deeply disturbing - this is her story.

COSPLAY UNIVERSE, shows us an inside view of the world of Cosplay and Comic-Con from the point of view of its most die-hard fans featuring appearances by comic book legend, Stan Lee, and cosplay superstars Yaya Han and Jessica Nigri. Jordan Rennert directs, Jonathan McHugh co-directed and produced along with his producing partners Patrick Meaney, Jonathan Platt, and Jordan Rennert. Filming wrapped and is now in the final stages of post-production.

COSPLAY UNIVERSE explores the rise of the global Comic-Con sub-culture and evolution of Cosplay; the art form of becoming a character that you love. The film follows the journey of several international cosplay teams as they compete in what is known as the ‘Olympics of Cosplay’ at the World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, Japan. COSPLAY UNIVERSE also chronicles America’s top cosplayers’ challenges to turn their geeky hobby into a thriving business. The film taps into the psychology behind this art of self-expression and demonstrates how Cosplayers can transform and expand their perceptions of themselves while finding community.

In addition to PAINKILLERS, I, DOLOURS, and COSPLAY UNIVERSE, KEW Media Group’s impressive international slate includes the thriller PERFECT SKIN starring Richard Brake, the flamboyant murder mystery comedy BEES MAKE HONEY starring Alice Eve; the comedy AN ACTOR PREPARES starring Jeremy Irons and Jack Huston; the elevated sci-fi film ‘2067’ from Seth Larney; the sci-fi mystery ORIGIN UNKNOWN starring Katee Sackhoff and Sci-Fi epic feature HIGHER POWER.
